Family photos should feel like your family. Not stiff, not overly posed, and certainly not a performance.
My approach is relaxed, playful, and gently directed. You'll get beautiful portraits, of course, but also the laughs, inside jokes, chaos, and in-between moments that you'll immediately recognize as yours.
Years from now, I hope you won't be looking at these photos nit-picking how your postpartum body looked, or fretting over your toddler's mismatched socks. I hope you'll look at them and think, “Those days were so fleeting and beautiful and I'm so glad we documented them.”

MEET SHELLEY
After nearly 15 years of documenting families, my style can best be described as intentional, intuitive, and natural. My clients appreciate that I make a heartfelt effort to get to know them and understand what they're hoping to get out of their session before we ever meet up for our shoot. I believe this his how a space of trust is fostered; this allows you to feel comfortable in front of the camera, and allows me the creative freedom necessary to create beautiful images that are wholly unique.

If you've ever thought any of these things before booking family photos, you're in very good company. The good news is that you don't have to be good at having your picture taken- that's my job.
What I won't do is tell your overstimulated toddler to smile over and over again, nor will I expect your kids to sit perfectly still for an hour. I'll give you direction when you need it, but mainly I just want to let your family be your family. We'll get the kids moving, make each other laugh, give the shy ones some time to warm up, and embrace the chaos when it inevitably happens. Some of my clients' favorite photographs happen in the moments when everyone stops trying to “behave” for the camera.
