SPINDLETOP HALL WEDDING | SARA AND ADAM

May 25, 2025

Documentary wedding photography at Spindletop Hall in Lexington KY

It’s *always* an honor to be invited to document someone’s story, but we felt especially honored this time! It’s not every day you get an inquiry from two such talented filmmakers. Sara is an award-winning Netflix producer, and we totally fangirled when we saw Adam’s “Director of Photography” name card in the Inside Out 2 credits! But you won’t find two more humble, down-to-earth, and gracious people. They resonated with our signature storytelling approach to weddings, and how there’s a natural ease even in the unexpected photos. They helped remind us why we stick to our guns in a world full of fleeting trends and TikTok shot lists… Nothing will ever beat authentic, unposed, documentary storytelling of your wedding day exactly as it unfolds.

As film buffs, we were all pretty excited about the mint green tiled bathroom that reminded us of The Shining! But overall, the most special thing about this day was hands-down the focus on family. Sara & Adam chose to have the wedding in her home state of Kentucky. This was to ensure that all of their family members would be able to attend. Many of their family members were meeting for the very first time at the wedding, although you may not have guessed it just by watching all the interactions on this day! This family meshed SO well together – plus, their mamas had become penpals and already had gotten to know each other 🥲)

This was such a precious day (and SO effortlessly elegant – Spindletop Hall really just speaks for itself)! Enjoy some of our favorites from this day (with a little bit of film thrown in!)

about us

we're shelley AND portugal

Before we were wedding photographers, we were just two kids in love. We met on Instagram and fell in love over FaceTime. A shared interest in roadkill portraiture is what brought us together (it’s a funny story), but what ultimately compelled us to take a chance on long-distance is the fact that we weren’t looking for surface-level. We craved a shared life full of connection, vulnerability, and the kind of love that changes you. Now we bring that same energy to your wedding day to capture the real story, not a performance.
